Stobcross is the first whisky released by The Clydeside Distillery. Its name is inspired by an old cross that once marked the route to Dumbarton Rock. In the 17th century, the Anderson family built Stobcross House, an elegant estate around which the textile village of Anderston later developed.

With the industrialization of the Clyde, the area changed: in 1875, the estate was demolished to make way for the Queen’s Dock, which became a key hub of international maritime trade and a symbol of Glasgow’s prominence.

This whisky is crafted from Scottish barley and water sourced from Loch Katrine, then matured in a selection of high-quality oak casks unique to the distillery.

The Distillery

The Clydeside Distillery is located in the heart of Glasgow, within Scotland’s renowned Lowlands region. A city steeped in whisky history, Glasgow was once a major hub for distillation and bottling, with nearly 40 active distilleries in 1963. Over time, and with the arrival of the 21st century, that number dwindled, making the surviving distilleries all the more valuable.

In this spirit of revival, The Glasgow Distillery Co., founded in 2014, became the first new malt distillery in the city in almost forty years. At the same time, Tim Morrison, a respected figure in the whisky industry and owner of AD Rattray, sought to rekindle local tradition by establishing a new distillery on the banks of the legendary River Clyde.

In 2011, Morrison Glasgow Distillers (MGD) acquired the historic site known as “The Old Pumphouse.” Under the leadership of Tim Morrison, alongside his son Andrew as Commercial Director and Glen Moore as Managing Director, this building—constructed in 1877 by Morrison’s great-grandfather—was meticulously restored and transformed into a modern, innovative malt distillery.

The first distillation at Clydeside took place on November 6, 2017. A few weeks later, on November 23, the distillery opened to the public with an immersive visitor center, offering a unique experience celebrating Scottish whisky.
